This is a specialty vision evaluation conducted by Neuro-Optometrist, Dr. Alex Conley, and takes approximately an hour to complete. This evaluation thoroughly assesses a person’s visual system, from the eyes to the brain, and how it integrates with other sensory systems, such as the vestibular (balance) and somatosensory (touch) systems. Many people are unaware that there are multiple processes and mechanisms involved in successful vision. Having 20/20 visual acuity is just one tiny piece of vision. Unlike most regular eye exams, this evaluation assesses the multiple processes of vision and provides a thorough baseline of the visual system for a variety of patients/symptoms including but not limited to:
Learning disabilities and/or ADHD
Autism spectrum and/or developmental delay
Athletes
Difficulty reading, tracking a moving object, attention to a task, comprehension/retention, or focusing on a series of stationary objects efficiently
Difficulty with depth perception and/or spatial awareness
Difficulty changing focus quickly without a blur
Individuals experiencing double vision, visual field loss, eye strain, headaches, or dizziness with visual activity
Individuals experiencing fatigue with visual activity
Individuals experiencing anxiety in visually stimulating environments or driving
Individuals who have suffered from stroke, traumatic brain injury, and/or concussions
Individuals with an eye turn or amblyopia (“lazy eye”)
At the end of the evaluation and at the doctor’s discretion, you may be given a new prescription for distance lenses, bifocals, therapy lenses, and/ or some form of occlusion/lens to start utilizing as a passive therapy treatment. Once the Neuro Eye Evaluation is completed, a complementary consultation will be scheduled with the doctor and vision therapist to discuss results from the evaluation and a treatment plan. You will receive a written report at the consultation listing evaluation results and, if applicable, diagnosis. For school aged patients, the report will include a list of 504 school accommodations for the patient to utilize in the school setting. If a new glasses prescription is given, you will receive a complementary one-month Glasses Follow Up exam for the doctor to check your progress with the new prescription.

Dizziness, poor posture while walking, and toe walking are all symptoms that can occur when your bodies sensory systems are not in sync. The visual system receives feedback from the vestibular system (the balance system in the inner ear) and the proprioceptive system (the system that uses receptors to give your body awareness on its position and movement). Sometimes, injury or poor development can result in these systems not properly calibrating in unison. In order to test the functionality of these sensory systems, Neuro Eye Team uses cutting edge equipment, called a platform posturography. Once a baseline is established, the test is repeated with different forms of therapy lenses to determine if a patient would benefit from a therapy lens prescription for treatment. This test is included in the adult Neuro Eye Evaluation.
